>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. AT THE APRIL 13TH CALLED MEETING,

[IX.A. Consider and Take Possible Action to Engage a Superintendent Search to Assist with Search Services and Community Engagement Activities]

WE HEARD PRESENTATIONS FROM THREE SEARCH FIRMS. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ABOUT THOSE PRESENTATIONS? MS. TIMME.

>> YES. THANK YOU, MS. HARRIS. I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY I DEFINITELY APPRECIATED.

THOSE FIRMS THAT CAME IN AND WERE ABLE TO PRESENT TO US AND GIVE US COMPREHENSIVE PLANS OF ATTACK THAT THEY HAD AS WE PROCEED THROUGH THIS.

I ALSO APPRECIATED THE FACT THEY WERE SUPER SENSITIVE THAT WE WANTED TO BE COGNIZANT OF THE ELECTIONS COMING UP AND ENSURING THAT OUR NEW BOARD WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THE SAME INPUT AND THAT THEY WILL TAILOR THE TIMELINE TO THAT.

I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT I FELT THEY DID A REALLY GOOD JOB GIVING US SOME DIFFERENTIATORS THAT WE COULD WORK FROM IN ORDER TO FIND WHAT'S BEST FOR OUR DISTRICT AND SPECIFICALLY WITH RISD COMMUNITIES INTERESTED IN.

>> ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU SO MUCH. MS. RENTERIA.

>> YES, I'D LIKE TO JUST DO EXACTLY WHAT MY COLLEAGUE, MS. TIMME SAID, BUT ALSO TO ADD THAT ALSO VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE TEAMS THAT CAME OUT AND TOOK THE TIME TO PRESENT.

AGAIN THAT THAT THEY UNDERSTOOD, THEY LISTENED TO WHAT OUR NEEDS WERE, I THINK.

I APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT THEY REALLY SAW THAT FOR US THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PROCESS.

[00:10:02]

I KNOW, MY COLLEAGUES HERE, THAT WE ALL DEFINITELY UNDERSTAND THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS PROCESS AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO US AND TO OUR COMMUNITY OF RICHARDSON.

I WAS VERY GRATEFUL FOR EVERYBODY WHO SHOWED UP.

AGAIN, FOR ALL THE PRESENTATIONS, THEY WERE ALL GREAT AND JUST VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE SOMEBODY UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE FEELING AND THE IMPORTANCE OF IT ALSO. I WAS VERY GRATEFUL.

>> ABSOLUTELY. ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS?

>> I'D LIKE TO SAY SOMETHING.

FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO THANK ALL THE FIRMS WHO CAME TO PRESENT TO THE BOARD.

WE APPRECIATE THEIR TIME AND THEIR DEDICATION TO THIS PROCESS.

EACH FIRM HAD EXCELLENT PRESENTATIONS AND PROVIDED GREAT INSIGHTS AS TO HOW THE SELECTION PROCESS SHOULD WORK FOR THE BEST INTERESTS OF EVERYONE IN RISD.

EACH ONE OF THESE FIRMS MADE OUR DECISION VERY DIFFICULT.

AGAIN, THANK YOU TO THE FIRMS FOR YOUR COMMITMENT AND YOUR HARD WORK.

WE APPRECIATE IT. THANKS.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> I HATE TO BE THE ONLY QUIET ONE AROUND THIS TABLE TONIGHT.

FEW THINGS THAT I WANTED TO JUST BRING UP WAS OBVIOUSLY LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE, BUT ALSO WANTED TO SAY THAT I THINK THIS HAS BEEN A GOOD STARTING PART OF THIS PROCESS.

I THINK THAT ALL OF US HAD A LOT OF EMPHASIS ON THE TRANSPARENCY OF THIS PROCESS AND HOW WE'RE GOING SEE THAT THROUGH, AND I THINK THIS WAS THE FIRST STEP IN THAT AND THIS HAS BEEN VERY EFFECTIVE.

WE TALK ABOUT STAKEHOLDERS, AND I THINK THAT WHAT'S CRITICAL IS THAT WE'RE REALLY FOCUSED ALSO ON THEY ARE THE MAJOR STAKEHOLDER, BUT STAFF AND TEACHERS RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I KNOW BEING IN A CORPORATE ENVIRONMENT WHEN YOU'RE CHANGING LEADERSHIP, THERE IS ALWAYS A LOT OF QUESTIONS.

THERE IS ALWAYS A LOT OF WONDERING WHERE THIS IS GOING TO GO, WHO WE'RE GOING END UP FOLLOWING AT THE END OF THE DAY.

I THINK THAT KEEPING THAT AT THE FOREFRONT AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT FEW STEPS, I THINK IT'S GOING BE CRITICAL.

ALSO I THINK THIS JUST SHOWS THAT I THINK THE RFP PROCESS IS A GOOD PROCESS.

WE DO A LOT OF PROCUREMENT IN THE DISTRICT, SO IT'S A KNOWN PROCESS.

BUT I THINK THE FACT THAT WE GOT QUALITY STATEMENTS OF QUALIFICATIONS OUT OF FIRMS AND THEY HAD GOOD PRESENTATIONS OUT OF SUBSEQUENT FIRMS, I THINK THAT SHOWS THAT THE RFP PROCESS HAS GOTTEN A STARTED OUT WELL.

I JUST WANT TO SAY KUDOS TO SO FAR IT'S FIRST STEP AND A NUMBER OF STEPS, BUT I THINK WE'RE GETTING STARTED ON THE RIGHT DIRECTION. THANK YOU.

>> ABSOLUTELY. MR. EAGER.

>> WITHOUT REPEATING EVERYTHING THAT AVIL SAID AGAIN, VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THE FIRMS THAT CAME OUT.

I THINK THEY REALLY WALKING THROUGH THIS RFP PROCESS.

EVERYTHING IS A PROCESS AND WE'RE WALKING THROUGH AND BEING VERY DILIGENT BECAUSE WE UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE WALKING THROUGH THE PROCESS, UNDERSTANDING THE TRANSPARENCY AND THE NEEDS OF EVERYONE IN THE DISTRICT AND ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS.

AGAIN, IT IS MUCH APPRECIATED THE PROCESS AND THE FIRMS THAT CAME OUT BECAUSE THEY RECOGNIZE THE UNIQUENESS OF WHAT MAKES ISD SPECIAL AND WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO US AND EVERYONE IN OUR COMMUNITY.

>> ABSOLUTELY. WELL, I CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH AND DIDO EVERYTHING THAT MY COLLEAGUES HAVE SAID, BUT I WILL SAY THAT WE ARE DOING A GREAT JOB I THINK OF BEING VERY TRANSPARENT IN THIS PROCESS.

WE ABSOLUTELY WANT OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO UNDERSTAND THIS PROCESS, WHAT WE'RE GOING THROUGH, HOW WE'RE GOING MAKE A VERY TOUGH DECISION THAT'S COMING DOWN THE PIPELINE.

THE OTHER THING THAT I'D LIKE TO DO ALSO IS TO ACTUALLY ACKNOWLEDGE AND THANK MY COLLEAGUES.

DURING THIS PROCESS, IT WAS A LONG, HARD PROCESS JUST TO DO THIS PART.

IT WAS FOR ME A LOT OF LATE NIGHT READING AND LYING IN MY BED TRYING NOT TO FALL ASLEEP SO THAT I CAN MAKE THE BEST DECISION, AND I THINK THAT WE'RE HERE TONIGHT.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, I'M JUST GOING ASK SOMEONE DO WE HAVE A MOTION?

>> YES MS. HARRIS. WE DO.

I MOTION TO APPROVE HELEN, DAMITH, AND CASTILLO TO CONDUCT THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH AND AUTHORIZE THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER TO NEGOTIATE AND ENTER INTO A CONTRACT ON BEHALF OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH SERVICES.

>> THANK YOU, MS. RENTERIA, DO WE HAVE A SECOND?

>> I SECOND.

>> THANK YOU, MR. EAGER. WE HAVE A MOTION BY MS. RENTERIA, A SECOND BY MR. EAGER. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? MR. POTEET?

[00:15:02]

>> THANK YOU. I'M GOING TO MESS THIS UP PROBABLY BECAUSE MY HANDWRITING IS SO BAD, BUT DAMITH AND CASTILLO.

FIRST BEFORE I GO INTO THEM A LITTLE BIT, I'D LIKE TO THANK ALL OF THE FIRMS THAT DID PRESENT, ALL OF THE FIRMS THAT SUBMITTED STATEMENTS OF QUALIFICATIONS.

AGAIN, THEY WERE QUALITY FIRMS, WHICH I THINK GOES BACK TO THE RFP PROCESS AND ALSO TO THE ASSET THAT ISD IS THAT WE HAD ENOUGH INTEREST IN TEAMING PARTNERS TO HELP US THROUGH THIS PROCESS.

NOW WITH THIS FIRM IN PARTICULAR, I DO WANT TO JUST STRESS THAT I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE PERSONALITY, THE PERSONAL FEELING THAT WE HAD IN THAT PRESENTATION.

I SAW THAT I THINK I'VE USED THE TERM A BOUTIQUE FIRM COMPARED TO SOME OTHERS.

I FELT THAT INTEREST AT THAT LEVEL, THAT PERSONAL INTEREST THAT THEY HAD FOR US.

OBVIOUSLY THEY ONLY HAD A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO RESEARCH.

THEY DID SOME RESEARCH WHICH I APPRECIATE.

WE'RE GOING GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO A LOT MORE RESEARCH AND GET TO KNOW US REAL WELL.

I THINK THERE'S A GOOD TEAMING PARTNER TO DO THAT WITH.

I'M EXCITED TO WORK WITH THEM.

THEIR ENERGY WAS HIGH.

BILINGUAL, WHICH I KNOW WAS POINTED OUT, BUT THAT'S VERY IMPRESSIVE AND I THINK AN ADDITIONAL ASSET THROUGH THIS PROCESS WITH OUR DISTRICT.

I'M EXCITED. JUST WANTED TO ADD THAT IN.

>> THANK YOU, MR. POTEET. MS. RENTERIA?

>> ABSOLUTELY. I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING THAT MY COLLEAGUE, MR. POTEET MENTIONED.

I THINK THAT AGAIN, THEY ALL DID GREAT.

ALL THE FIRMS THAT PRESENTED WERE GREAT.

BUT WITH OHALEEN, DAMITH, AND CASTILLO, THEY JUST DID A GREAT PRESENTATION.

I WAS VERY IMPRESSED FROM BEGINNING TO END.

I FEEL LIKE THE MINUTE THAT THEY PRESENTED, THEY DID AN AMAZING JOB.

I DID LOVE THE FACT THAT THEY TOUCHED RIGHT ON PRESENTING AND HOW WE ADDRESS OUR BILINGUAL COMMUNITY.

I THINK THAT EVEN IN THEIR PRESENTATION, EVEN BY THEIR PHYSICAL SENSE OF BEING THE WAY THAT THEY PRESENTED, THEY WERE VERY DIVERSE TEAM AND THAT JUST IMPRESSED ME VERY MUCH SO THAT THEY DEFINITELY REALLY WALKED THE TALK FOR SAY.

SO THEY VERY COMMITTED, VERY HIGH-ENERGY AS WELL TO VERY READY.

WHAT I ALSO LOVED WAS THAT JUST LISTENING.

I THINK THAT I JUST GOT A SENSE THAT THEY REALLY LISTENED INTO WHAT WE WANT AND HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS TO US ON EVERY ASPECT, ON EVERY LEVEL.

THEN THEIR COMMUNITY INPUT, WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THE COMMUNITY, WHICH IS AGAIN VERY IMPORTANT TO US.

I WAS JUST VERY IMPRESSED AND I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH THEM, SO I'M VERY THANKFUL.

>> THANK YOU, MS. RENTERIA. MR. EAGER.

>> A COUPLE OF THINGS TO ADD ON THAT.

THERE'S A COUPLE, ONE IS THE PERSONAL TOUCH THAT I FEEL.

WE AND OBVIOUSLY IN THE DUE DILIGENCE AND REFERENCE CHECKS AND A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT WE DID IN OUR VETTING PROCESS.

IT WAS VERY CLEAR, PERSONAL TOUCH.

BUT ALSO IT'S NOT JUST PERSONAL TOUCH BUT PROCESS.

THEY WERE VERY THOROUGH.

THE OTHER THING TOO IS THAT THEY'RE DEDICATED ONLY TO US.

BEING A LAW FIRM FROM SOUP TO NUTS, BUT ALSO WE'RE GOING GET THEIR FULL ATTENTION.

THEY ARE HERE TO SERVE US, OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR STAKEHOLDERS AND WALKING THROUGH THIS PROCESS.

SO THAT WAS ANOTHER THING THAT I FELT BEYOND THE OTHER ATTRIBUTES THAT MY FELLOW TRUSTEES HAVE SAID THAT WAS ANOTHER REASON THAT FELT VERY COMFORTABLE WITH.

AGAIN, ALL DUE RESPECT TO THE OTHER FIRMS BECAUSE THEY ALL CAME IN, THEY DIDN'T MAKE IT TOUGH.

BUT ULTIMATELY WE HAD TO GO THROUGH A VETTING PROCESS, A VERY CHALLENGING PROCESS, AND COME TO A DECISION AS A TEAM.

>> THANK YOU, MR. EAGER. LET'S TAKE MS. TIMME.

>> I FELT LIKE THEY DID HERE WAS IMPORTANT TO US, THEIR WILLINGNESS TO GO OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY, TO BE HERE FACE-TO-FACE, TO ENGAGE WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS AS MANY TIMES AS NEEDED.

I CERTAINLY APPRECIATED THE FACT THAT THEY UNDERSTOOD THE NEED FOR US TO HAVE A FULL BOARD SO THAT OUR COMMUNITY COULD FEEL FULLY REPRESENTED.

WAITING UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTIONS, BUT ALSO BEING WILLING TO START THE WORK THAT WOULD ALLOW THE PROCESS TO MOVE THROUGH WITHOUT COMPROMISING OUR NEW BOARD ABILITY TO ENGAGE AS A WHOLE, AND I THINK THAT WAS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT.

I THINK ALSO TO THE FACT THAT THEY WERE WILLING TO HELP US WORK THROUGH THE TRANSPARENCY OF THE PROCESS TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR PARENTS AND STAFF REALLY UNDERSTANDING WHERE WE WERE IN THE PROCESS, WHAT OUR NEXT STEPS WERE AND HOW THAT WAS GOING TO BE

[00:20:03]

AND HELPING US COMMUNICATE THAT IN A WAY.

THEN THEIR WILLINGNESS TO REALLY WORK WITH THE TIMELINES OF OUR BOARD, AND SO I CERTAINLY THINK THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BRING A LOT TO THE TABLE AND HAVE SIGNED ON FOR A GOOD SIZE JOB.

>> YES. MR. LINN.

>> IT'S HARD TO MATCH HER AND I DON'T WANT TO SAY DIDO LIKE YOU SAID EARLIER, BUT I THOUGHT THIS FIRM WAS REALLY CREATIVE IN THEIR APPROACH.

THEY UNDERSTOOD WHAT WE'RE GOING THROUGH.

THEY UNDERSTOOD WE HAVE AN AGGRESSIVE TIMELINE, THAT WE WERE LOOKING TO MEET CERTAIN BENCHMARKS.

I APPRECIATED THEIR RESEARCH INTO ISD.

I LOVE THEIR COMMITMENT TO STAKEHOLDER AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.

THEY WERE RIGHT ON WITH SOME REALLY CREATIVE IDEAS ABOUT HOW TO ENGAGE OUR FOLKS AND ALSO BROUGHT THE STUDENT VOICE INTO THE CONVERSATION WHICH I THINK IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

LOVED HOW THEY WERE VERY WILLING TO WORK WITH OUR COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT TO GET THOSE MESSAGES OUT THERE AND BE VERY TRANSPARENT IN THEIR APPROACH.

I THINK GOING THROUGH THEIR PROPOSAL, THEY HAVE FANTASTIC QUALIFICATIONS, GREAT REFERENCES.

I FEEL VERY CONFIDENT THAT THIS FIRM IS THE BEST QUALIFIED CHOICE TO HELP US PERFORM OUR SERVICE, SO I SUPPORT YOUR MOTION.

>> THANK YOU, MR. LINN AND I HAVE TO AGREE, A FEW OF THE THINGS THAT I SAW MYSELF WAS I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE PROFESSIONALISM THAT THEY BROUGHT, NOT JUST IN THEIR APPEARANCE, BUT IN THE DOCUMENTS THAT THEY BROUGHT AND PROVIDED TO US, IT WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL.

I LOVE THE DIVERSITY IN THE TEAM.

ABSOLUTELY. I LOVE THE FACT THAT I FEEL LIKE THEY HEAR OUR COMMUNITY, THEY ARE OUR COMMUNITY.

I FEEL LIKE THEY WERE ACTUALLY A PIECE OF ISD AND IS ABSOLUTELY WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW.

SO I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING THAT MY COLLEAGUES HAVE SAID HERE TONIGHT.

I'M NOT GOING TO HOLD US IN ANY LONGER.

I'M JUST GOING TO STATE THAT WE HAVE A MOTION BY MS. RENTERIA AND A SECOND BY MR. EAGER. IF THERE IS NO MORE DISCUSSION, ALL IN FAVOR, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND.

MOTION PASSES 6, 0.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. THIS MEETING IS ADJOURNED AT 7:04 PM ON APRIL 19TH, 2022.

[NOISE] THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR COMING OUT.
